darko

i like the very end of donny darko when they are all outside of the house all depressed. i like it because the dad is holding and comforting the kid the mom is smoking and it's so quirky. i don't feel good about smoking at all, but it is just so refreshing to see the lady in the movie be imperfect but still loved. it just seems like it's the other way around too often.

nice post and comment. I think in life we all ultimatly need to come together with other people (and the surrounding world) It's really the only way to recognize and overcome our weaknesses and pool our strengths.

That's my one philosophical beef with donnie darko--the statment that everyone dies alone and you just have to come to terms with that. Maybe death is a lonely journey, but so is going number two, or living at walden pond for a couple of years, or wandering alone for 40 days in the wilderness . When you're done you wash your hands and go back to the party, you come back and publish books, or you return to heal the sick and preach a new law. What I mean is life is peppered with moments of solitude and those are important, but ultimatly being human is about comming together and how we affect each other-- hopefully for the better.
